Lee's Day walk Sunday 18th July

Hi,
This is my first time on the Forum and I have been urged to use it to suggest a day’s walking venue. I would like to propose Staward Pele/Allen Banks as a venue on Sunday 18th July at a reasonable time of meeting to suit all interested. OS Sheet 77 Hexham One Inch series. Car Park Grid ref. NY 798641. This is accessed by going west from Haydon Bridge on the A69 and turning left at the Allen Banks sign between Haydon Bridge and Bardon Mill. The road leads under the Newcastle to Carlisle railway where you take the left fork and you then come to the car park at Ridley Hall.
It involves a walk through a wooded river gorge, partially on National Trust property and including a Pele tower and old fortified farms near Plankey Mill. The walk which was suggested to me is around 5 miles, but there are a few variations which appear on the notice board in the NT car park and we can decide on the day what to do. Parking at the site is £4 per car per day and replaces a previous charge which was levied for entering NT land belonging to Ridley Hall. Dogs are allowed but whether on a lead or not I don’t know. Nearest pub for later is at Bardon Mill a short distance from the car park along the A69. Nearest ‘good’ pub is at Twice Brewed.

I know the walk well, I do it every year with my kids, its a good one.You can go over the suspension bridge then up through the woods on good paths to a tarn then back down to the river to extend it if you want. I cant make it. Working on Sunday.

I would have been interested but also busy this Sunday.

If it doesn't come off and you want to arrange a later date let me know!!

If it does run - let us know how it goes.
